Brazil tightens gun controls. Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva signed an executive order tightening civilian access to firearms, in a bid to slow a surge in gun ownership that occurred during the presidency of his predecessor Jair Bolsonaro.
US military to use Papua New Guinea naval base for 15 years. Access will be granted to six sites in Papua New Guinea including a naval base for 15 years under a defence agreement reached between the two countries, as Washington aims to counter China's influence in the region.
